La Playa Hotel underwent a $20 million renovation completed in Fall 2023, earning an HD Design Award. Originally built in 1905 as a gift from a Ghirardelli family member to his wife, the hotel is known as the 'Grande Dame of Carmel.' The renovation preserved the historic charm while adding air conditioning in all guest rooms.

All single bed rooms include king beds, and three 1-bedroom suites are available. Rooms have custom climate controls and Tivoli radios, with ocean views in select accommodations.
